Thanks to partners Frank Taliaferro and Archie Rogers encouraging Charlie Lamb to submit his innovative design to the Awards Committee of the American Institute of Architects, in the summer of 1954 the lodge received the Award of Merit at the Annual A.I.A. Convention. It was the first national award for the fledgling firm (later to become RTKL), and it resulted in their relationship with Pietro Belluschi, Dean of the MIT School of Architecture. Pietro was serving as a judge on the AIA awards committee   and was taken by the design. His interest spurred him to pursue design collaborations with RTKL over the ensuing decade, which helped to shape the firm’s early direction.
